Moving to Maryland Checklist

  • Update your address with USPS and set up mail forwarding. You can also update your voter registration here: https://moversguide.usps.com/mgo/disclaimer?
  • Transfer your out of state driver’s license. You must apply for a Maryland license within 60 days of moving to Maryland. More info here: https://mva.maryland.gov/about-mva/Pages/new-to-maryland.aspx
  • Transfer car registration to Maryland: https://mva.maryland.gov/vehicles/Pages/registration/new-to-maryland.aspx
  • Update Car Insurance Policy
  • Update healthcare providers
  • Update any loans and banking information including credit cards
  •  Find your child’s new school district and get them enrolled (check with local county)
  •  Consult with a Maryland Tax Professional
  •  Register Pets & find a vet
  •  Make sure to have your old utilities turned off & have new service ready for when you arrive:

  • Internet/Cable
  • Set up trash pick up depending on county
